In a month that typically centres around large-scale international activity, the pace shifted noticeably, creating a different kind of energy across the island — one that felt less concentrated, but still present.

When the usual anchor was missing

The cancellation of the Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix 2026 marked a significant change to the city’s usual calendar, removing what is often considered the anchor of the month. The event typically drives a surge in tourism, hospitality, and city-wide activations, setting the tone for April. Its absence reshaped the landscape, leaving fewer large-scale experiences and shifting the focus away from global attention toward a more localised pace. The decision, influenced by wider regional considerations, didn’t stop activity altogether — but it did change how the city moved.

Where activity found its scale

Despite the shift, Bahrain remained active throughout the month, just at a different scale. At the Bahrain International Endurance Village, the Al Fursan sports programme continued to host endurance-based events, including a duathlon on April 25 that brought together runners and cyclists. Across the city, particularly in areas such as Bahrain Bay, smaller running events and informal fitness gatherings continued to take place, maintaining steady participation even without major headline attractions. The activity was less about spectacle and more about consistency, showing that movement within the city doesn’t rely on a single event.

The calendar didn’t stop, it adjusted

Bahrain’s broader sporting calendar also maintained its rhythm. The Bahrain Turf Club continued its racing season through April, with regular race days offering continuity despite the quieter month. At the same time, Bahrain International Circuit shifted toward smaller-scale, public-facing experiences, including track sessions and community-focused activities rather than hosting large international crowds. The infrastructure remained active, reinforcing that while the scale had changed, the system behind it had not.

A quieter continuity across culture

Beyond sport, elements of the cultural and exhibition calendar continued to hold their place. The Bahrain International Garden Show, held in early April, went ahead as planned, bringing together exhibitors and visitors around sustainability and environmental themes. While not a large entertainment event, it reflected a steady layer of activity that continued to support the city’s broader cultural landscape.

A city redistributing its energy

Taken together, April reflects a broader shift in how Bahrain is currently operating. The change is not simply about fewer events, but about how activity is distributed. Large-scale gatherings were limited, while smaller, local events became more visible, spreading across different parts of the city rather than being concentrated in a single moment. The energy feels different — more measured, but still active.

Not a pause, but a transition

Bahrain is not fully back to its usual April intensity, but it is far from inactive. Events are still happening, people are still showing up, and the city continues to move, just at a more controlled pace. What April ultimately shows is not a city defined by what was missing, but one adapting to new conditions. Instead of relying on a single headline event, Bahrain moved through a series of smaller, consistent moments that collectively kept it going. It’s not a pause — it’s a transition, and one that’s steadily building momentum again.

Buses arrive on time. Routes are clearly structured. People can plan their day with greater certainty.

Marking the occasion, His Excellency noted the importance of mass transit systems in supporting sustainable urban mobility, improving traffic flow, and strengthening community connectivity. He emphasized Bahrain’s commitment to participating in international efforts that promote sustainable transport solutions and advance their objectives.

His Excellency Dr. Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa stated that the Ministry’s strategic priorities focus on developing land transport infrastructure, expanding public transport options, improving operational efficiency, and encouraging greater use of public transport. These priorities align with Bahrain Economic Vision 2030 and national plans aimed at building an integrated transport network that enhances mobility and supports carbon neutrality targets by 2060.

For residents, this translates into shorter waiting times, clearer routes, and more efficient travel across the city.

The public transport network continues to show measurable progress. More than 600 bus stops now serve over 39,500 kilometres daily across 26 routes. Bus services continued to run efficiently under all circumstances, maintaining service delivery and supporting daily mobility needs. In March 2026, the system recorded an operating rate of 80 percent, with a total of 782,931 journeys and a daily average of 25,256 journeys.

Service continuity allowed people to carry on with their day, from commuting to work to getting back home without disruption.

Ongoing development initiatives, implemented in cooperation with the Bahrain Public Transport Company, continue to focus on improving network efficiency, enhancing service quality, and increasing reliability and ease of use. These efforts strengthen public transport as a sustainable option that supports everyday life and community stability.

Over time, these improvements shape how the city operates, making movement across different areas more seamless and predictable.

His Excellency Dr. Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa also commended the efforts of national personnel and employees in the land transport sector, recognizing their role in delivering essential services and ensuring the smooth movement of people across the Kingdom.

Not every major financial move makes noise. Some work in the background shaping stability, trade, and how money flows across borders.

The Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates and Central Bank of Bahrain have signed a AED 20 billion ($5.4 billion) currency swap agreement, allowing both countries to exchange dirhams and dinars over five years.

At its core, the deal strengthens liquidity and supports smoother trade. But its real value goes beyond that.

What It Means for the Region

This agreement helps both countries:

Support each other during financial pressure

Enable more transactions in local currencies

Reduce reliance on the US dollar

Strengthen overall economic stability

It is less about immediate change, more about long-term resilience.

What It Means for Residents

You will not feel it overnight, but the impact builds over time:

💸 Lower transfer friction between UAE and Bahrain

🛍️ Smoother cross-border payments and trade

📈 Stronger business environment and opportunities

🏦 Better financial protection during uncertainty

This is not a loud move, but it is a strategic one.

It strengthens the financial system, supports growth, and builds a more stable foundation for both countries — quietly shaping the future of how the region operates.

Manama, Bahrain – The InterContinental Bahrain Ramadan Iftar 2026 opened with an immersive pearl-inspired experience inside the Regency Tent. As part of the invited media, I attended the preview evening to explore this year’s Ramadan theme..

The first thing I noticed was the glow. Soft lighting reflected off pearl-inspired details across the space, giving the entire setting a warmth that felt intentional and intimate.

This Ramadan, InterContinental Bahrain has drawn inspiration from one of the Kingdom’s most meaningful symbols. Pearls. And you feel that story unfolding from the moment you arrive.

Under the theme “Celebrating Heritage, Embracing Togetherness,” the hotel has shaped its Iftar experience around Bahrain’s pearling legacy. The atmosphere felt refined yet welcoming. Conversations flowed easily between fellow media guests, partners, and families as they gathered to break their fast.

The buffet stretched elegantly across live cooking stations, where chefs prepared Ramadan favourites alongside international dishes. The aroma of freshly grilled meats and warm Arabic sweets filled the tent. I found myself pausing more than once, taking in the details before even deciding what to put on my plate. Live Arabic melodies played gently in the background, adding rhythm to the evening without overpowering the room.

In the lobby, the pearl story continued through curated artistic installations. Miracle Publishing House presented a collection of books and photography capturing Bahrain’s maritime past. French-born artist Tiny Om showcased locally sourced pearls that highlighted craftsmanship and authenticity. Nearby, renowned Bahraini sculptor Mahdi AlBannai exhibited sea-inspired pieces that reflected the depth and beauty of the Kingdom’s underwater heritage.

“This was about sharing the story behind Jashan by Chef Pillai and offering a preview of the experiences guests can expect,” said Mukul Mehta, Cluster General Manager at Wyndham Garden Manama. The lunch, he added, set the tone for a series of events designed to bring guests closer to the food and the chef.

That calendar runs from Feb. 1 to Feb. 14 and includes an Interactive Cooking Class, the Travancore Food Festival, a Chef’s Degustation Menu, Friday Brunch, a Nikah Biryani Festival and a Valentine’s Day Special Dinner. Each experience is built around access, opportunities for diners to engage directly with Chef Pillai while exploring menus that draw from regional Indian traditions and celebratory formats.

For a first-time visitor, the Bahrain Arts Society Annual Exhibition 2026 feels less like a single exhibition and more like a guided walk through Bahrain’s contemporary creative pulse. From the moment you enter, it becomes clear this isn’t designed to be rushed. The layout encourages slow movement, pauses, and second looks, an experience that rewards curiosity rather than checklist viewing.

Organized by the Bahrain Arts Society, the annual exhibition brings together a broad mix of artists working across painting, mixed media, and contemporary abstraction. For future goers, expect a large-scale group exhibition rather than a tightly themed show. There is no single narrative or prescribed route. Part of the appeal is discovering how different artistic voices sit alongside one another, sometimes in harmony, sometimes in contrast.

The exhibition unfolds across multiple rooms, each offering a shift in tone and visual language. For first-time attendees, it’s worth allowing at least 60–90 minutes to fully take it in. The diversity of styles can feel overwhelming at first, but that sensation quickly turns into appreciation. This is where the exhibition becomes eye-opening. It reveals just how wide the spectrum of artistic practice in Bahrain truly is.

Rather than spotlighting a single “star,” the show functions as a snapshot of the local art scene, mixing established voices with artists who are clearly still evolving.
