Who They Are
UMC serves as the cornerstone of King Abdullah Medical City in Bahrain. It's a healthcare hub born from a partnership between Dr. Sulaiman Al Habib Medical Group and the Arabian Gulf University, launched in 2012. Quickly after opening, it earned the title of Best Medical Project in Bahrain, thanks to outstanding surgical achievements in fields like cochlear implants, tumor removal, obesity treatment, and infertility.
Where It's At
It sits in Durrat Al Bahrain, one of the country’s largest man-made islands, serving not just Bahrain but the wider GCC healthcare ecosystem.
Facilities & Capacity
- Opened in 2018 in phase one.
- Includes three buildings, with the first being an eight-story tower (around 288 beds).
- Houses a range of departments—Obstetrics & Gynecology, Pediatrics, Surgery, plus a dedicated Orthopedic Surgery.
Bed breakdown in phase one:
- Obstetrics: 35 beds
- Surgery: 144 beds
- Intensive Care: 36 beds
- Pediatrics: 24 beds
- Childbirth: 12 beds
- Others: 24 beds
What’s Ahead
- Phase two is underway to expand capacity up to 500 beds, bringing more comprehensive services.
- Planning includes family-friendly amenities, an addiction treatment center, an adjacent hotel for visitors (100+ capacity), and a medical research center driving disease exploration like cancer and obesity.
